❧ Drosera intermedia---Spoonleaf Sundew description
🌱 Beginner-Friendly "Drama-free plant energy"
A paddle-leaved bug catcher that grows half in, half out of the water, like a tiny dewy hand reaching out of the swamp. Charming.
What you get: 1 live Drosera intermedia, shipped bare root (no pot, no soil), plus a plant care card, a QR code to our free online plant guide, and a discount code for your next order.
Quick facts
- Difficulty: beginner-friendly
- Light: full sun for the most dew; partial sun works with fewer sparkles
- Water: distilled, rain or RO only. Loves wetter feet than most sundews; stands in a water tray and shrugs off brief flooding
- Soil: 1:1 peat moss and perlite or silica sand. No compost or potting soil
- Dormancy: winter. Outdoors it shrinks into a tight resting bud (a hibernaculum). That is normal, not death
- Outdoors in USDA Zones 4a–9b
- Mature size: about 3 inches across
- Pet friendly
- Eats: fungus gnats, fruit flies
One of the most widely distributed sundews on Earth, native to bogs and wet shorelines across Europe, eastern North America, Cuba and northern South America. For anyone who wants a sundew that isn't just another rosette.
Fresh out of the box: ships bare root with no peat, sphagnum or pot. Pot into rinsed, damp peat or sphagnum using only distilled, RO or rain water, set the pot in a dish of the same water, and ease it back into bright light.
Cold weather: heat packs are required November through February for the live arrival guarantee. Outside those months, if any stop on the route from California to you could drop below 50°F, add a heat pack. Plants are dramatic about frostbite, and honestly, fair.
Live arrival guarantee: if your plant shows up in rough shape, send us a photo within 48 hours of delivery. For an eligible claim we may provide a replacement when available, a refund to the original payment method, a partial refund, store credit, or care and recovery instructions when the issue is cosmetic or reversible. Heat packs are required November through February for the guarantee. Orders over $100 ship UPS or USPS with shipping insurance. Orders usually ship within a few days, Monday through Wednesday, so plants never sit in a carrier warehouse over a weekend (we may make an exception if you're close by, likely to receive it by Saturday, or the weather along the route is mild). Full shipping and refund policies are on our website. Every plant is nursery grown in California.
