Drosera capensis 'Alba'---Alba Cape Sundew description

🌱 Beginner-Friendly "Drama-free plant energy"

The Cape Sundew's ghost cousin: lime-green leaves, snow-white tentacles and crystal-clear dew that fungus gnats keep mistaking for a good idea.

What you get: 1 live Drosera capensis 'Alba', shipped bare root (no pot, no soil), plus a plant care card, a QR code to our free online plant guide, and a discount code for your next order.

Quick facts

  • Difficulty: beginner-friendly
  • Light: full to partial sun, or a bright windowsill
  • Water: distilled, rain or RO only. Keep constantly moist; sit the pot in a tray of water
  • Soil: peat moss with perlite or silica sand. Never potting mix, compost or fertilizer
  • Dormancy: none. Grows year-round
  • Outdoors in USDA Zones 9–11; indoors anywhere
  • Flowers: white to pale blush
  • Pet friendly
  • Eats: fungus gnats, fruit flies, other tiny regrets

Every leaf looks dusted with diamonds while quietly running a catch-and-digest operation. One of the easiest carnivores you can grow. Elegant. Enchanting. A little bit spooky.

Fresh out of the box: ships bare root with no peat, sphagnum or pot. Pot into rinsed, damp peat or sphagnum using only distilled, RO or rain water, set the pot in a dish of the same water, and ease it back into bright light.

Cold weather: heat packs are required November through February for the live arrival guarantee. Outside those months, if any stop on the route from California to you could drop below 50°F, add a heat pack. Plants are dramatic about frostbite, and honestly, fair.

Live arrival guarantee: if your plant shows up in rough shape, send us a photo within 48 hours of delivery. For an eligible claim we may provide a replacement when available, a refund to the original payment method, a partial refund, store credit, or care and recovery instructions when the issue is cosmetic or reversible. Heat packs are required November through February for the guarantee. Orders over $100 ship UPS or USPS with shipping insurance. Orders usually ship within a few days, Monday through Wednesday, so plants never sit in a carrier warehouse over a weekend (we may make an exception if you're close by, likely to receive it by Saturday, or the weather along the route is mild). Full shipping and refund policies are on our website. Every plant is nursery grown in California.

  • Do you offer express shipping?
  • Yes — express shipping options may be available at checkout.
