Why We Love Them

Because it's everything people imagine a carnivorous plant should be. Giant jaws. Dramatic color. Lightning-fast traps. Maroon Monster takes the classic Venus Flytrap and dials up the intensity, creating a plant that's impossible to ignore and endlessly entertaining to watch.

5.0 Dionaea muscipula 'Maroon Monster'---Maroon Monster Venus Flytrap description

🌱🌱 Intermediate "A little picky - but worth it"

One of the darkest flytraps you can own: big tooth-lined traps that deepen from green to velvety burgundy. Bold. Beautiful. A little bit terrifying.

What you get: 1 live plant shipped in its 2" plastic pot, plus a plant care card, a QR code to our free online plant guide, and a discount code for your next order. It arrives green and turns deep red with 6+ hours of direct sun. Don't repot on arrival; flytraps hate root disturbance.

Quick facts

  • Difficulty: intermediate. A little picky, but worth it
  • Light: full sun, 6+ hours
  • Water: distilled, rain or RO only. Tray method. Never let it dry out
  • Soil: peat moss with perlite or silica sand. No potting mix or fertilizer
  • Dormancy: required. It shrinks and looks half-dead in winter. It is not dead. Do not throw it out
  • Outdoors in USDA Zones 7–9; colder with winter protection
  • Mature size: about 5 inches
  • Pet friendly
  • Don't poke the traps for fun. Each one only closes a handful of times

Trigger hairs snap the trap shut in a fraction of a second. It never gets old. Nursery propagated and legally cultivated, never wild-collected.

Fresh out of the box: give it 1–2 weeks to settle. A droopy leaf or a slow week is normal travel drama, not a death sentence.

Cold weather: heat packs are required November through February for the live arrival guarantee. Outside those months, if any stop on the route from California to you could drop below 50°F, add a heat pack. Plants are dramatic about frostbite, and honestly, fair.

Live arrival guarantee: if your plant shows up in rough shape, send us a photo within 48 hours of delivery. For an eligible claim we may provide a replacement when available, a refund to the original payment method, a partial refund, store credit, or care and recovery instructions when the issue is cosmetic or reversible. Heat packs are required November through February for the guarantee. Orders over $100 ship UPS or USPS with shipping insurance. Orders usually ship within a few days, Monday through Wednesday, so plants never sit in a carrier warehouse over a weekend (we may make an exception if you're close by, likely to receive it by Saturday, or the weather along the route is mild). Full shipping and refund policies are on our website. Every plant is nursery grown in California.

Watering & Feeding

Water:
• Use ONLY distilled, rain, or reverse osmosis water
• Keep soil consistently moist using the tray method
• Never allow to dry out completely

Feeding:
• Catches its own insects
• No fertilizer needed
• Avoid triggering traps unnecessarily, as each trap has a limited lifespan

Growing Medium

• Carnivorous plant soil mix
• Sphagnum peat moss with perlite or silica sand
🚫 No fertilizer soil, compost, or standard potting mix

Shipping
  • Do you offer free shipping?
  • Wild Wonders Oasis will run free shipping offers once orders have reached a certain threshold. You can find this information on the Product Pages, Cart Page, and Checkout Page.

Shipping costs are calculated at checkout based on your order, location, selected carrier, and shipping speed. Basically, the plants need a safe little travel plan, and unfortunately the postal goblins do require payment. 📦🌿

We do our best to offer available shipping options at checkout so you can choose what works best for you.
  • Do you offer express shipping?
  • Yes — express shipping options may be available at checkout.

At checkout, you’ll see a variety of postal carriers and shipping speeds to choose from, depending on your location and the items in your order. Pick the option that works best for you and your leafy little travel companions. 🌿

Please note that shipping speeds begin once the carrier receives the package — not while your plant is still being lovingly packed like the tiny botanical celebrity it is.
