🌵🌸 Gymnocalycium – The Button Cactus with a Surprise Bloom 🌸🌵
🌵🌸 Gymnocalycium – The Button Cactus with a Surprise Bloom 🌸🌵
Say hello to Gymnocalycium, the adorably round, ribbed cactus that looks like a perfect desert pebble… until it throws out a massive flower like a botanical mic drop. With its tidy shape, minimal spines, and blooms that rival your grandma’s roses, this cactus is low-key with a flair for drama.
☀️ Chill with the Sun – Loves bright indirect light or morning sun. Too much intense heat? Nah, Gymno likes it bright but balanced, like a cactus who reads poetry and hydrates.
💦 Low Water, No Worries – Let that soil completely dry out between waterings. It’s built for desert survival, not daily pampering. Water it deeply, then ignore it like a true cactus connoisseur.
🌸 Blooms That Break the Rules – When happy, it sends up giant pastel blooms that practically outshine the plant itself. Pink, white, yellow—each Gymno has its own flower power moment, and when it shows up, it's a whole vibe.
🌿 Small. Sculptural. Surprisingly Extra. – Whether you’re starting a cactus collection or just want a desk buddy with personality, Gymnocalycium brings easy charm, structural beauty, and occasional floral fireworks.
🪴✨ Add this desert gem to your cart—because low effort + surprise blooms = plant parent win.
Plant is shipped bare root with no soil. Plant is growers choice. If you like a particular photo please email to inquire if the plant is still available.
COLD CLIMATES - ADD HEAT PACK
We strongly advise to include a Heat Pack (available on our shop) in order to protect the plant from temperature extremes. Any order that does NOT have a heat pack is not covered by the live plant guarantee.
Plant Sizing Guide
What Size Am I Getting? Let's Break It Down.
We get it—plant sizes can be confusing. Is a “small” the size of a golf ball or a grapefruit? Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered. Below is a quick guide to help you understand what each size means when shopping our plants. Measurements refer to the plant body, not including the pot (unless noted).
Tiny
- Baby plants or starter plugs. May be rooted or freshly cut. 0.5"–1.5" wide.
- Example: Butterwort plug, small seedling
Small
- Young plant, well-rooted, 1.5"–3" wide or tall.
- Example: Aeonium cutting, sundew cluster
Medium
- Established plant, 3"–5" wide/tall. Ready for repotting or display.
- Example: 2–3 year-old cactus, flowering flytrap
Large
- Mature plant, 5"–8" wide/tall. Great for centerpieces or statement planters.
- Example: Dioscorea elephantipes, pitcher plant
XL (Collector Size)
- Rare or mature specimen, 8"+ or unusually large or sculptural in form.
- Example: Caudex giants, multi-head aeoniums
📦 Note:
- Pot sizes (if included) are listed separately on product pages.
- Some species naturally stay small—even large ones might only be a few inches wide. Check individual listings for details.
- Photos are of representative plants—your plant may vary slightly (because nature’s not into clones).
