Dionaea muscipula 'Red Piranha'---Red Piranha Venus Flytrap description
🌱🌱 Intermediate "A little picky - but worth it"
All plants sold are nursery propagated and legally cultivated, never wild-collected. Wild Venus Flytraps are native to only a narrow strip of coastal North and South Carolina, and their wild populations are increasingly rare — every plant we sell was grown in a nursery, never dug from a bog.
Meet Venus Flytrap 'Red Piranha', an Ed Reed seedling selection first offered through Juniper Level Botanic Garden that took the most famous carnivorous plant on Earth and gave it a serious upgrade in attitude. Instead of the smooth, evenly-spaced teeth of a standard flytrap, Red Piranha grows long, jagged, overlapping cilia that look exactly like rows of tiny piranha fangs, rimmed with a thin band of golden edging just below the teeth. Traps start out green and deepen to a bright, chili-pepper red as they age and soak up light — older traps eventually turn red all over.
It's not just a pretty (terrifying) face. Trigger hairs inside each trap detect movement and snap the jaws shut in a fraction of a second, sealing in any insect unlucky enough to wander inside. Watching it happen never gets old.
Sharp teeth. Deep red bite. Zero chill.
⚠️ Important Shipping Callout
📦 This plant ships in a 2" pot as a young division roughly 1" across. It is not recommended to repot Venus Flytraps, as disturbing the roots can delay growth.
🥰 Current plant color is green and will develop its signature red teeth and golden-edged trap interior with 8+ hours of direct sunlight.
